Why you should donate blood
Did you know that it takes nearly 1000 people a day to maintain a stable blood supply for emergencies just in the PNW. Nearly 4.5 million people end up needing a blood transfusion each year in the United States alone, so odds are someone you know will need blood in their lifetime. 37 percent of the population is eligible to donate, yet less than 10 percent do it regularly. I think what made me so eager to come back and donate when I am healthy is because it is easy. Giving blood not only was easy, it took up less then an hour of my time and I knew that it was helping save lives. In a way, much like voting and recycling, I consider giving blood to be a civic duty to help the wellness of my neighbors. I hope that I can encourage others to donate blood and help out their community in such an easy way. Before you donate remember to eat a healthy meal and drink extra fluids. If you can't donate blood please consider sharing facts about blood donation or giving a financial contribution to Bloodworks NW.

3. You get cookies, juice, and chips after you donate (or during if you want)
4. You can find out your blood type (which is good for you) & make sure that you are healthy in other ways (they test for HIV/AID, hep B&C, west nile virus, and others)
5. There is some research that donating blood can make your body more efficient and be beneficial to you over time as well
